Welcome
We provide two very important seminars to supercharge the progress of our students toward a great life. Completing these trainings requires a strong personal commitment to taking on the fears that stand in the way of love and of a great life.

Parents, family members, and siblings over 16 years of age are invited to attend these two life-changing seminars off campus at the majestically beautiful Big-K Guest Ranch and Lodge in Southern Oregon. Completion of these seminars by the enrolled student and parents provides the maximum effectiveness in creating a great student-family fit for a returning student.

The Quest Seminar focuses on working through the natural defensiveness we use to guard against taking an honest look at the self-limiting beliefs which support behaviors which we would like to lose, most particularly those which hold others at a distance. It provides an incredible opportunity to look at the fears which we hold about being authentic and creative. Risk-taking and growth occur as a result of the inherent journey of self-discovery embedded in the Quest Seminar. This seminar is hard work, unless it isn't.

The Focus Seminar provides an opportunity to take a look at the part of us that we would like to change for the better, and to stretch beyond our self-imposed limitations. It sharpens the life skills acquired in the Quest Seminar to a much higher level, resulting in an inspiring experience which is truly life-changing for participants who are willing to go the distance. Completion of the Quest Seminar is a pre-requisite for attending the Focus Seminar.

Informational Resources
The following written and web-based resources can be very valuable in assisting parents with understanding their teen’s (and perhaps even their own) struggles and to help put life in a fun, workable, and responsible perspective, regardless of the circumstances. Although our flexible theoretical orientation is the result of years of experience, education, and extensive training, the following resources have been a continuing source of information and inspiration into new ways of looking at old problems.

Man's Search For Meaning
by Dr. Viktor Frankl, MD.

Dr. Frankl was interred in Germany’s Auschwitz and Dachau concentration camps during World War II, and chose to look at the experience from an inspiring perspective instead of that of a victim. Although he both suffered and observed unspeakable torture in the process, including the loss of his wife and parents, Dr. Frankl’s writings about his personal experiences and what he gained from them are a profound source of inspiration for all mankind. From his experiences, Dr. Frankl developed a unique approach to therapy which he called "logo-therapy", which focuses on the natural human quest for meaning in life. This amazingly fresh approach to life is inculcated into our therapeutic model. This book is truly one of the worlds greatest written treasures. We highly recommend it!
Choice Theory, and Reality Therapy
by Dr. William Glasser, MD.

Dr. Glasser is the director of the William Glasser Institute in California. During his 30-odd years as the director of the Ventura Girls School in Southern California, he developed a unique approach to therapy for teens and families which includes taking responsibility for choices which created the results we are standing in. Scotts Valley School incorporates this approach in our concept of responsible choice.
Lost At School
by Ross W. Greene, Ph.D

Dr. Greene is associate clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and the founding director of the Center for Collaborative Problem Solving in Newton Corner, Massachusetts. Dr. Greene's novel approach to children with behavioral challenges is outlined in this outstanding text, and aspects of this approach are incorporated in our therapeutic model. Our lead staff are trained in Collaborative Problem Solving.
