Our purpose at Scotts Valley School is to inspire passion for life by tapping into, and supporting, our students’ natural passion for meaning in their lives. We are licensed as a therapeutic boarding school, not a boot camp. And we bring into play a wide variety of therapeutic and educational resources to assist us, because each student’s individual struggle and approach to the process is different.
The flexibility of our Therapeutic Model provides a means of
- assessing what is getting in the way emotionally and educationally,
- developing a specific plan of action to assist each student in moving past the self-limiting beliefs and lack of skills that stand in the way,
- helping each student replace previous destructive habits with those backed by responsible choice, and
- providing copious opportunities for each student to experience the justifiable pride of success.
About Scotts Valley School
Education and activity are central to the process. Our academic programs provide the resources of materials, training, and staff assistance for our students at whatever level they are learning. Our focus on activity, both on and off campus, provides a system of fun-based breaks in the hard emotional and educational work on campus, and which can are available at every phase of our program.
Our beautiful 20-acre Oregon campus contains a full indoor gymnasium, a football/soccer field, a baseball diamond, and other areas for exercise and play. We also provide physical condition training to assist students in experiencing the feelings of good physical and mental conditioning. PE is a daily part of our campus schedule.
Off-campus activities available in Oregon to students who have developed an appropriate level of trust include bowling, golf, swimming, hiking trips along the Pacific Crest Trail, and wake boarding. All activities are appropriately supervised by our qualified staff.
Because our students come from a variety of geographical areas, cultural backgrounds, family structures, religious orientations and histories, we do not engage in teaching religion, or in pushing one or another political or cultural viewpoint. We are not affiliated with any religious organization, and we do not transport students to church due to the unfairness which can result from not being able to treat all students equally. Students interested in studying a religion of their choice are given opportunity each Sunday for such worship. We do our best to be flexible to support spiritual structures at home which improve the chances of success for our students, but we do not engage in religious training with our students.
