Our exceptional academic program is designed to support students in their journey for greatness. It is integral to our therapeutic model and consists of a comprehensive and fully-accredited college-preparatory secondary school education complete with advanced placement and honors courses. It also includes a GED program, complete with local testing, for students who may be better served to progress in their studies through a community college program. Some students may complete their high school studies while enrolled at Scotts Valley School and others may return home to complete their high school work.

Academic Program

Parents are involved in the academic program choice through discussions prior to and following enrollment. Each student’s academic program is tailored to find a best fit for the student’s abilities and desires. As students move forward in our therapeutic program and become more responsible with their choices, they learn to take on their education with the purpose of providing educational tools to enhance their lives and achieve their personal goals.

Our educational curriculum is provided by professional outside sources with whom the parents may continue to work if their student returns home prior to high school completion. A wide variety of college-level courses are available to qualified students from a number of local and national colleges.

Because our enrollment is open continuously, students have an opportunity to complete course work at their own pace. Most of our students complete their high school courses at a much faster pace than they would at a regular public school campus. Students who have had poor grades in previous school terms usually spend a part of their academic work with us retaking those classes and significantly improving their GPA.

Students who finish high school with us have the opportunity of receiving a high school diploma from our local public high school. We work closely with the school district to share opportunities which benefit both the public schools and Scotts Valley School.

Sports and fun are a huge part of each day at Scotts Valley School. We have a full-size gymnasium and 20 acres of ball fields, wetlands, and woodlands. Students who will remain with us through an the season of a particular varsity or junior varsity sport may be able to play on the team at our local high school. This includes football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, and soccer, limited only by the trust level of the student and the timing of the year when these sports are active at the high school.
